Willi Smith was one of many amazing designers lost to the AIDS epidemic, passing in 1987 just as his business had grown into its own. Smith was known for lively and inventive sportswear, accessible but no less refined (Smith had been designing for Arnold Scassi and Bobbie Brooks before). Not much is discussed about Smith and his label Williwear, but a video like this shows just how much of a unique and creative force he was and how much New York fashion has really lost.
