Perry Ellis, 1981

Tweeds, gnarled knits, melange, and monochrome: the flirtatious interplay of texture and pattern — tastefully masked within an English textile tradition — a hallmark of Ellis’ wit and genius. Ellis was a sporstwear designer, nothing more and nothing less, but he was able to reimagine the genre with a rigor even Chanel and Patou (two of the first to elevate sports clothes into the chic world of fashion) would find enviable.
